Mia Sewell, LMFT-Associate

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate Supervised by Katie Abney, LPC, LMFT-S
(she/her/hers)

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate located in Austin, TX. I have experience working with a variety of clients and presenting problems, but one of my specialties is working with adolescents experiencing issues with body image, relationship to food, and eating disorder behaviors. I am trained in the psychodynamic orientation, but I utilize attachment theory and Gestalt principles with clients; my passion is helping people integrate their various parts in order to achieve synergy as a whole person. I believe in creating a secure base for clients so they feel safe talking about their experiences, and helping them learn and implement practical skills like mindfulness to use in their everyday lives outside of the therapy room. I believe in a client-centered approach in which the client is the expert on their life and the therapist’s role is empathetic and collaborative.

I have experience working in a number of settings, including a treatment center at the partial hospitalization (PHP) level, a community mental health agency, and the school system. I also have experience in crisis management and facilitating group therapy, as well as parent coaching. Through warmth, humor, and empathy I meet the client wherever they are on their healing journey.
